Top Tips For Passing 11 Plus Tests

Top Tips For Passing 11 Plus Tests

  1. A child attention span at this age is somewhere between 30 to 50 mins. Do not make the child sit and study continuously for more than this period as they will simply not be able to focus and lose engagement and concentration.
  2. Allow for plenty of study breaks- even if they are 5-20 mins long. This will help refresh the memory and keep the child calm and focused.
  3. Active revision is a great way to stay interactive with the topic so make way for revision games and mock tests as they are great exam techniques to use for 11 plus preparation.
  4. Use plenty of visual aids to enhance learning. A lot of information can be compressed in spider diagrams, mind maps, flash cards and posters etc.
  5. Stick formulas and diagrams to the fridge or in the child’s room so that the child can see them as they pass from that area.
  6. Practice a variety of difficulty levels revising. Once the child is able to tackle a question which he felt was difficult earlier, move them on to the next difficulty level in that topic. This will not only boost their confidence in their abilities but also improve their skill in the subject.
  7. Do plenty of reading in your free time as that will help you in your vocabulary. These 11 plus tests are designed to assess the English language skills and vocabulary , along with grammar. Therefore, the child will need to demonstrate a string level of ability regarding words, phrases and meanings.
  8. Make the child practice a wide variety of verbal and non verbal reasoning questions so that they are familiar with all types of questions and are able to tackle any questions that others might tricky. Some questions will require attention to detail rather than technical knowledge or ability.
